First of all, I disagree with all the people saying you should get some new friends. I know that can be difficult depending on where you are in life, how many people are around, etc.

However, I do agree with the people saying that you should simply ask them to respect your boundaries. From here you have a few different options. It's hard to say which one to use without knowing your personality or your friends.

One option is to (If you have) Tell them that you have read the bible, you have looked at the evidence, you have even prayed to God telling him you are a sinner, and it just didn't do anything for you. Tell them you understand what they are saying, but that it would be a lie for you to repeat it and act it out.

Say if God truly does exist he is going to know what is in my heart and that you would rather face him saying you looked at what God gave the world and it logically didn't convince you and that you would rather face God honestly than live a lie and be judged as a hypocrite for God would know that you don't truly believe in your heart. (That worked with one of my friend)

For your Christian friend, Tell him you can not understand God's love. Give him the following scenario and question.

a. A man named X, who had been an Atheist all his life, but became a Christian in his 50's. One night he gets extremely drunk and brutally beats, rapes, and kills an 18 year old Atheist woman who is on her way to a friend's house to discuss Jesus and possibly accept him as her savior.
The police in the attempt to apprehend Mr. X get into a gunfight with him. Mr. X. kills 3 police officers (an Atheist who is killed putting himself in front of a child saving the child's life, a Muslim, and a Christian that has accepted Jesus as his savior but sinned that afternoon having an extramarital affair with another officer).
Mr. X. is also hit and critically wounded in the fight. He is rushed to the hospital. While there, Mr. X sobers up and is truly sorry and repents to God and Jesus for what he did. He starts to make excuses because he was drunk, but stops and simply tells the Lord that he is truly sorry. He 100% honestly repents and states that Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the dead and that he will accept whatever punishment God gives him as he is unworthy. He then dies.

This story is fiction, but every event in it has happened at some time in the real world... just not all at once.

Here are the people who died. first, ask him who should go to heaven and hell. Ask according to God who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell... suffering in a lake of fire for all eternity with no chance of parole.

a. The 18 year old Atheist woman who was raped and killed who would have been saved had she lived through the night,
b. The Atheist cop who saves a child's life by jumping in front of him
c. The Christian cop who dies unrepentive of his affair
d. The Muslim who has known nothing but Islam all his life and recently immigrated
e. Mr. X

When done, Ask according to God who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell... suffering in a lake of fire for all eternity with no chance of parole.

Then ask how our legal system would judge them if they all lived.

If he is honest, you will get at least 2 different answers, possibly 3. If God's law is perfect, why do we inherently disagree and our legal system disagree? Do you really want to serve someone like this?

According to the bible, Mr. X, the drunk rapist and murderer is going to heaven. Everyone else is becoming a briquette for an eternal Bar-B-Que. .

This example while a bit long, but easy to tell, and easy to see the “Merciful God”. Compare that to our legal system if everyone had lived. Who would get medals and who would get the death penalty. Why would God send an innocent victim and three heroic police officers to hell while Mr. X gets to have eternal happiness. I can't accept that this is a loving God that would do this. It isn't justice.

3. You can use the same story for the Muslim, but you have to adjust it a little. For the sake of time, just

Hope this helps a little. It probably won't, but I have found it quite interesting to see what goes on in their eyes when you describe this, how they try to explain how perfect God's law is, then why don't we follow it?
