I suspect it was a local thing. At the past address every package I got from an Arab nation was ripped open, several weeks late in delivery and had a note "Damaged in Shipping" stuck on it.
I can understand and even accept mail from the Mideast will be suspect and can accept any mail I get from there will be inspected. I have no problem with that. Just want them to be honest and plainly say "Opened for security inspection" not a note saying "damaged in shipping"

That's an interesting point - at least regarding myself and not the town. I used to date a fellow who was a contractor and got a job in Dubai for a few years. We'd mail packages back and forth. I doubt if that had anything to do with it, but who knows?
It's funny. The packages I sent him were inspected in Dubai before they were sent on to him. There was one with a picture of Nancy Reagan at a ball. She had on a strapless gown and when he got the book there was black magic marker over her shoulders.
