I dislike groups for some obvious reasons...yet, I am drawn to go
to a monthly 3 hour meditation....I think it has more "power".
(SRF or Self Realization Fellowship, btw.)

Why is it when 2 or more gather it is more powerful, do you think?
Not to say, being alone is not also wonderful...
Thank you.
Simple.

There are three types of spiritual energy: Divine, Lower (as in, if Divine is higher self, the other is the opposite, baser impulses), and Human energy. Divine is shorthand for energy which helps others. Lower energy is self-serving. Now, what is Human energy?

Humans, being neither of Divine, nor Lower, origin but creatures of Nature and Free Will, have a very unique ability. This ability is that of Bonds and Boundaries.

Think of Boundaries as stuff like making kekkai barriers, or warding off "bad energy." At the simplest form, the ability to build a door and lock it, or if you want to get into magical thinking saying "sticks and stones may break my bones" to protect against insulting names. Atheism is basically a very strong Boundary against other people, and their "superstition". As in, I don't care about your religion, don't bother me. Another one is "there's no such thing as ghosts" repeated over and over again, as a mantra.

On the other extreme, the ability to pray, is a means to form Bonds with the Divine or Lower sources. But here's the interesting part, I could literally pray to a gf to help me, since Bonds really are just Bonds, whatever they're made with. Or I could connect with something like ley lines. Or virtually anything. When two or three people are gathered together, this is a Bond between them. They are working together, but there's actually more energy than just that, as each of them has other Bonds they draw from (person A believes in his gf, person B believes in fate, and person C is a nature worshiper) which transfer partial energy. And yes, you can get this same resonance from a rock concert or something. Or being in love with someone.

I believe it has to do with energy. to sit next to a guru puts you in a far deeper state of meditation than to sit in a room full of people meditating, unless there is a highly experienced person among them and you happen to be sitting near this person. That has been my own experience.

To expand on this, even people who are supposedly psychic, have trouble predicting anything in a room filled with skeptics. It's like the entire energy of the room has a strong barrier around it saying "nope, you can't do that here." There are areas, that due to the crowd, you're likely to be able to do faith healings and such, because a bunch of people are gathered. And areas you can't because not a single person with any belief in that stuff is nearby.

The subject of gurus is altogether very interesting...is it them that transmit or is your
incredible receptivity heightened and desire and preparation...so they were "just" a catalyst.
(I like cataclysts! Ha!)

Humans are social creatures and human emotions and beliefs are strongly reinforced in the company of other like minded humans. The amplification of emotional responses requires no more elaborate explanation IMO than this simple one. We have evolved to be finely attuned to each other and to need to belong and have shared experiences.

Heard a witness of Christ once , were there was a threat of armies attacking the people in this city , some hundred of people went out in the streets , and prayed the Rosary , and God honored the pray and quelled the spirit behind the offense and the armies never came to fight , but peace came instead .......I have never prayed the Catholic Rosary , and I do not take any offense in the Prayer , But if One person would have come out and prayed the Prayer Jesus may have done little , but hundreds of people came and prayed in unity , and Jesus honored in a profound way ......I do not know anything about meditation in Christianity , but if people do it then they should be spiritual discerned , and pray Jesus Words with the meditation , as No Word of God , then No faith in God ......Because Jesus honors people praying His Words

Hi hljc,

"Be still and know that I am God" is meditation.
It was written way before Jesus came on the scene, just sayin'.
I have nothing against Jesus...I do about exclusivity, however.
But that is for another thread and topic.

I do thank you for the story...I am a big believer in miracles, they happen all the
time around me and for me...makes no diff to me Catholic prayer or any other prayer...one Father Creator as far as I am concerned. Oops, off topic.
