1 Peter 3 Interlinear Bible

Quote:
1 Peter 3 (YLT)
18 because also Christ once for sin did suffer -- righteous for unrighteous -- that he might lead us to God, having been put to death indeed, in the flesh, and having been made alive in the spirit,
19 in which also to the spirits in prison having gone he did preach,

20 who sometime disbelieved, when once the long-suffering of God did wait, in days of Noah -- an ark being preparing -- in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;
21 also to which an antitype doth now save us -- baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God,) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,

22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven -- messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him
This is a difficult passage. It seems quite clear that he is talking about the Ark.
Could it be:
Quote:
an ark being preparing -- in which few, that is, eight souls, were preserved through water;
The antitype of which (the spiritual counterpart of the ark) also now saves us -- immersing not flesh yet putting away filth.
Granting a clear conscience unto God through the rising again of Jesus Christ,
its almost sounds like the ark represents the Holy Spirit.
And that you need to be baptized by the Holy Spirit in order to get a spiritual ark
in order to undergo the spiritual baptism of spiritual water (without getting wet)
and that also would explain the connection with the resurrection of Jesus.

physical water baptism symbolizes spiritual water baptism.
the scripture makes it clear that water baptism alone is not sufficient for salvation.
But it does appear that spiritual water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Spirit are both required.

Quote:
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying,
If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (Spiritual Water)
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 But this spake he of that spirit which they that believe on him were about to receive (at that feast)
(which has to be a reference to spiritual water not to the Holy Spirit)
for the Holy Spirit was not yet given
; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.

I would not recommend that anyone rush into any baptism.
You need to know exactly what you are getting yourself into

To me it sounds as if the 8/12 represents two thirds of the world. 12 being complete. The rest of the "world" was baptized by water. A third of the world died in baptism.

The next baptism will be with fire. I'm not sure what that means though. But the "world" represents a person.

...and maybe the water represents repentance.
