Darwinism, the notion that the history of organisms was the story of the survival of the fittest and most hardy, and that organisms evolve because they are stronger and more dominant than others, is a perfect example of the age from which it came: the age of Imperialism. When Darwin wrote, it was received wisdom that the white, northern European man was destined to rule the world. This could have been rationalized as greed–i.e., Europeans simply taking the resources of nations and tribes less well organized than they were. It could have been worked out as a form of amusement of the upper classes and a place for them to realize their martial fantasies. (Was it Shaw who called Imperialism “…outdoor relief for the upper classes?”)
Ah yes, Ben Stein, a man I once respected as an intellectual.
Comparing Darwinism to Imperialism and Communism, huh? Ah yes, why not compare Darwinists to Nazis too? And yet, not one single argument that he presented held any actual proof. It was a statement of opinion. It's sad to see that a smart man could be so stupid. Ben Stein being the financial expert that he is (and not biologist by the way), was, I'm sure, very well suited to make the determination that supporting evolution wouldn't reap in large sums of money. I wonder how much the Kent Hovind's of the Creationist world offered him to make such a leap of idiocracy??

Ah, one of the biggest fish in the pond. I just love stirring things up sometimes.

Much like your response.
Seriously. Read it again. He isn't criticizing or even questioning evolution. He's criticizing Darwinism, which he defines. His criticism is pretty clearly defined and directed.
With all due respect, it seems that you're so eager to disagree that perhaps you didn't even give him the benefit of an honest read and consideration.
