It wasn't that long ago, that it seemed the molestation of young boys was confined primarily to the American Catholic Church.

We now have had a flurry of trials whereby pastors are on trial for child pornography, fraud and molestation of young boys now.

What the heck is going on within the Christian community? This stuff is just sick.

It sad and we live in a fallen world and I fully support him to be punished. Just as one man action or some people actions within the Christian community does not represent all in the Christian community. Besides hearing people in Church industries arrested for that, I also commonly hear people arrested for that in a wide range of professions. An example is 7th Heaven actor Steven Collins, but his crime does not represent all in the acting community. Yet I can name Christian leaders as well as actors who have been charged of this and sadly you hear more of it.

Some professions are held to higher moral standards. Considering priests and pastors, rabbis and imans purport to be the messengers of high morals, when they make these dastardly criminal actions, it does reflect on the whole.

That's a disingenuous statement if I've ever heard one. Pedophiles are pedophiles, regardless of their career choice.

There have always been teachers who prey on their students, especially the female teenage ones. Does that mean men who like teenage girls are confined primarily to the teaching profession?

I am glad that these crimes are coming to light instead of being hidden, but there have always been religious leaders who sexually abused members of their flock. The reason why so many priests were exposed is because Catholicism is the largest Christian denomination.

The married pastor at the Pentecostal church I attended as a kid, used to stroke my thigh when driving me back home from the mid week youth meeting when I was 14 in the 60s, all the time telling me how beautiful my mother was!

Religion, even that of the oh so holy 'saved' mob, doesn't prevent them sexually abusing kids!

So the scandal was not as bad or real?

Please.

It was real, it was widespread, it was covered up, we can certainly speculate why it occurred. But to try and save this wasa disingenuous comment. when it was in the forefront of the news for years, is deflecting.

Hypocrites in the church? Really? I hate to break the bad news but hypocrites are even in our political system. The church does seem to attract an inordinate amount of them though.
we have evolved somewhat though by not placing blame and shame on the victims!

Actually.....you should get your facts straight. This appears to be a Catholic priest.

Not to say only Catholic priests do this stuff--because plenty of protestant pastors are sinful men, too. That's what happens when people get involved. People sin -- even pastors.

On top of that, I think there could also be a question of whether or not the pastor in question is even a Christian. It's certainly possible to enjoy being active in church life, doing church stuff, manage the church, even preach a sermon.....and not be a Christian.

I think you are right he is a priest. Not that it makes any difference, as he should still be and is expected to be a moral leader.

Believe or not I agree with you with this also. There are numerous church leaders although the pulpit, that are actual agnostic or atheist. Once they actually study and open their minds they realize that what they are preaching is not the truth, if they're trapped in a situation where they have no other means of livelihood.

They are living a lie, and know they are.

There is a great organization that exists to help and assist clergy who are caught in this conundrum. http://clergyproject.org , and if you go to their website you will see that they have a significant screening process to ensure that those clergy that join their identity is protected.

Some articles addressing the issue of atheist clergy.
