The ultimate root cause of religion is the inherent unavoidable existential dilemma that is embedded in the human DNA.
This existential dilemma [subliminal] exudes terrible psychological angst which manifest despairs, anxieties, hopelessness and other psychological impairments.
Fortunately for mankind a belief in God, illusory beings, magical thinking, spirits, and the likes provide immediate soothing to the psychological angsts. Somehow it works on a black-box approach. Believe and viola! the angst disappear and accompanied by relief and joy for most theists. The various forms of believing in a God and magical thinking are organized into religions.
Whilst theistic religions do give relief to believers they have their side effects in their negativity to humanity.
However the tackling of the inherent existential dilemma can be done by other approaches other than God magical thinking and the likes. There are religions which are non-theistic without magical thinking but rather relied on rational thinking to deal with the existential dilemma, e.g. Buddhism, Jainism and others.
The existential dilemma can also be suppressed by other secular means, e.g. rational/critical thinking, drugs, work, creativity, escapism, etc.
Ultimately, the root cause [mainspring] of religion is the inherent unavoidable existential dilemma.
Prior to the prayer the pastor mentioned to everyone to not expect her to become completely healed after the prayer because God doesn't work that way. I thought that was very convenient. I don't know if he truly believes this or is just covering his arse.
It's a cracker isn't it. Good for all occasions and not a snowballs chance in hell of ever being proved wrong.
Magical thinking is a thought process where causative relationships are learned based on correlation alone. For example, believing that prayer is effective because you got better after you prayed for your illness to get better.
Is this the root cause of religion? Why else would people believe that the universe is controlled by a supernatural being?
"Magical thinking" is the "root cause" of the delusion that mankind will ever be anything but vast majority Religious, and that the Atheistic "Concept of Nuthin'" will ever be anything but a "nuthin' concept".
No elective concepts have ever been more epically influential and pervasive than Religion. That is The Way of the World. Has been, is now, and gonna be. And anyone's displeasure and/or angst about that will do jack squat to change it.
Whyz it that way? The heck if I know. They never put that stuff over on me...I've always been waaaaaaay too smart and wise to be scamned like that.
BUT! I also have more wisdom than to agonize about it. Like destructive weather, solar flares, and the collision of the planets...I know better than to spit into the wind and pound sand over things I am completely powerless to do anything about.
Some still need to get hip to that.
God is alive and very much real and in no way just a conjecture of ideas and morals , believer have answers of prayer from God , you would be surprised to witness God .......Actually it is a mistake to not have Jesus on your life
Well, you're not wrong there! I'd be VERY surprised. Astounded even!
