The Dutch just got a new religion. It involves a giant deity who's fond of flying spaghetti and people who wear colanders on their heads.

Yep, "Pastafarianism," which sprang up in 2005 in response to the Kansas State Board of Education's decision to allow intelligent design to be taught as an alternative to evolution, has gotten more legit.

The Netherlands joins a handful of other countries in recognizing the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, the brainchild of one Bobby Henderson, a then 25-year-old physics graduate from Oregon.

Official recognition as a religion is long overdue. All hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster (pbuh and all that stuff).

They might as well worship Star Wars as a religion and become a Jedi since both things are clearly products from someone's imagination.

That's great!
Now they will "fit in" better with the other 8 out of 10 people in this world who are Believers.
I've been saying for years the Atheists should just go with FSM or IPUs. They will certainly have more mojo than Atheism ever will...not that Atheism isn't just as good as any Religion.
I'm cool with all of it. Believe what you want...just don't hurt anyone.

I see the entire point of Pastafarianism has gone right over your head. It is a tongue-in-cheek "religion" intended to emphasize the problems with using religion as a basis for public education and governance.

Hi jeff. Long time no see. Hope all is well with you.

A Jedi code seems a reasonable use of imagination. Would you believe I have a Jedi robe?

As an atheist I think that's terrible.

It's hard enough for us to be heard without such silliness muddying the waters.

Translation - it's a fake religion set up to make fun of Christians. Really productive use of one's life there.
