Found this article this morning. It's pretty interesting. Apparently there's some mounting evidence that the Canaanites were never wiped out.

Quote:
The Canaanites are famous as the bad guys of the Book of Joshua in the Tanakh, or the Hebrew Bible. First, God orders the Hebrews to destroy the Canaanites along with several other groups, and later we hear that the Canaanites have actually been wiped out. Among archaeologists, however, the Canaanites are a cultural group whose rise and fall has remained a mystery. Now, a group of archaeologists and geneticists has discovered strong evidence that the Canaanites were not wiped out. They are, in fact, the ancestors of modern Lebanese people.
Welcome thoughts from all sides

If they were not, the Jews better get about exterminating them by commandment of their God.

No. Of course not. Read the OT...you'll see that the Israelites grew complacent and lived with them rather than wiping them out.

You make that sound like a bad thing to do.

Considering that the Israelites were descendants of the Canaanites - no!

If they did they are not doing as commanded by the OT god. One of 613 commandments is that they are to wipe them out, which again proves to me the Bible was written by men.

How's that? It just proves that they were disobedient. It's what God said would happen in the end of Deuteronomy. God said they would disobey and he would judge them for it. And they did...and he did. It's why Babylon wiped them out and took them into exile.

If you're an ancient Israelite living under the Law, better hop to it.

Thankfully though, we have a new Covenant. We no longer have to be obedient to the Law and the Commands given to the Israelites in the desert because Jesus makes his followers righteous by faith.
