By "we" I mean every human being that has ever lived. Unless one has a savior, they go to hell. There's nothing wrong with helping people to realize that. But if all the guy was doing was being confrontational, judgmental, and rude, that isn't helping.
Well, see, that's just your opinion based on YOUR belief.
I'm not sure I've ever made such a statement. Certainly not singling you or anyone else out. And definitely never without saying there is a way out and a way for God, in his infinite love, to forgive.
If you're saying you didn't make the statement about people going to hell, uh, yeah, you did.

I went to a huge event today and right next to where masses of people stop and wait there was a preacher mic'd up on a box. Typical stuff, saying how we're all sinners, heaven isn't just filled with lovely people and the way to get to heaven is through acceptance of Christ. There were also kids passing out cards that looked like discount cards but when you read the back it talks about punishment in hell. Leaving, there was a similar preacher, but more fear mongering with frying in hell sort of thing. Both guys were actually pretty good orators, I'm sure they've done the same thing many, many times but the thing I found annoying was the sense of entitlement from how they spoke.
Another "preacher" I know preaches on college campus in a confrontational style saying God hates gays, and all this other hate rhetoric. Most students just laugh and argue back, but after spending some time on here, I bet he draws in a few.
So as a follow up to the other thread - //www.city-data.com/forum/relig...ll-people.html, I think this is part of the reason why a lot of non-Christians find it annoying. Even for Christians, do you want more Jehovah Witnesses knocking on your door? And for Christians, what if someone was preaching Islam in a similar soapbox fashion - honestly, how would that make you feel?
The context of the other thread is exactly what you lay out: Christians deliberately approach you and me and others to preach. That is very low of them. We are entitled to react aggressively against that behavior since it assumes that non Christians need to be saved from a deity's wrath that they don't believe in. This is truly a soapbox preaching. We are forced to make a choice.
What you represent in your scenario is different. I don't think it's a soapbox preaching. Christians talk on the street or in school; people have a choice to approach or walk away. That's freedom of expression. We have a choice to participate or walk away.
So, because you’re offended, he can’t speak? Free speech doesn’t work that way, Moderator cut: Leave out your political opinions
Sure he can speak. So you would be okay if someone was on a soapbox preaching about Islam? Or if someone belonging to the church of Satan were to preach on a street corner? Or if Hare Krishnas or Buddhists were sharing their faith in this fashion? Just want to make sure I understand where you're coming from.
