Liberal Christianity may well have regained some integrity because of that result. Christian fundamentalists didn't have any to begin with.
It was a surprising and encouraging end-result. Kind of like watching two people handle fireworks. One handled them wisely, the other played with them with a stupid grin, until they went off in his face.

Sane moderate Christians obviously woke up and stepped up to the plate too. We need much more of that.

There may be some hope after all. It's a start

Is Christianity's integrity damaged by Christian political support for a pedophile in Alabama? Or have years of revelations about pedophile priests and philandering pastors already accomplished that?
I keep asking the question. Is there such a thing as due process in this country anymore? Has he been convicted and has it been proven?

Roy Moore wasn't on trial. He was running for the United States Senate. And in this case, the court of public opinion, apparently more people believed that he was guilty than did not. Even in the state of Alabama. With the entire state as his judge and jury, more people found him guilty than did not.

The "smoking gun" was loud and clear to many. The guy that lost had no credibility to stand behind anyway. He shot himself in the foot with the same cockiness and bravado, courtesy of that smoking gun.

He didn't earn some exclusive privilege to skip out on what's involved in elections and gaining office. He had to play by the same rules as others, and he got what rightfully came to him. Adios chump.

Who cares? He's a scumbag and that is well-known. He thinks the last time America was "great" was back in the good ol' days of slavery.

Only other fundies mourn his defeat.

Civilized, rational, empathetic people are partying.

I don't recall seeing that. Could you elaborate?

Look it up. It's been reported in dozens of media outlets. I don't want to derail the thread.

I do think that the issue of due process, whether the legal variety or just plain old fairness, is something that is not being brought into this overall issue enough.

You're right, in an election a candidate has no legal due process right with the voters. And, he could easily bring about legal due process by suing his accusers in civil court for slander/libel. Of course, the fact that he doesn't do that (as another elected official also doesn't do that) speaks volumes.

Nevertheless, this mantra that we're hearing lately has dangerously evolved from a woman has the right to be heard to a woman has a right to be automatically believed. And that is not justice or fairness either.

And before we get too far along is the hurrahs about last night's results, keep in mind that in 2018 he could conceivably run again and could conceivably win. To be honest, if he hadn't made the slavery comment, I think he may have ended up on the positive side of a small margin.

I think the Christian support for child molester Roy Moore was a defining moment. Proclaiming the worst type of sexual predator, one that preys on children to be a godly man on a mission from God was a disgusting spectacle.

The idea that the same Bible thumpers that say God would punish them for baking a cake for a gay couple believe that God will reward them for supporting a child molesting pedophile scumbag would be hilarious if it was not so sad and pathetic.

Typical though, the worst kind of people on this planet are the ones that wear their religion on the sleeve for the world to see. The more that a person proclaims their love for God for all to hear the more likely they are a lying, scumbag con artist.

If I had a dollar for every defining moment in American history that wasn't...well...

Hopefully you are right.

And your second paragraph -- bullseye!
