As far as spiritual movies, because there are so many popular movies that are all about revenge, I'm always a fan of the seemingly rarer movies that have the themes of forgiveness and reconciliation. There's an older Sally Fields movie, for instance, called "Places in the Heart" where the end scene is all the characters from the movie (heroes, villains, dead, alive) taking Communion together. As a conservative Christian (at the time), it jarred me, but it was a powerful and moving image.
Or even the sillier, comedic movies like "You Again" (Kristen Bell, Betty White, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis) which revolved around the theme of holding, and releasing, grudges. I couldn't help myself; I just loved it.
I never saw/read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but I think Shawshank fits well in here. "I hope."
I've not read the book, which is no doubt better, but the movie is hilarious. During the story, the Earth is destroyed. At the end of the movie, a new one is being built and just about ready to come online. The birth of the new Earth is some of the most beautiful footage you will ever see on screen.
Along the way, we learn that the birth of our universe "made some people very angry". Also, that the meaning of life, the universe, and everything is....42.

Yes, I remember that scene from Places in the Heart, and it was powerful. Very good movie. I saw it on TV years after it was in the theaters.

I TRIED to read the book but just couldn't get into it.

Have you seen the movie? What did you think? (If no, I highly recommend you give it a try.)
Actually, I have been wanting to see it again myself. I went to work for a county government a little over a year ago, and I think I will have a new appreciation for the Vogons. The Vogons are the creatures who destroyed Earth in order to make room for a new intergalactic freeway. They all seem to be bureaucrats and have a great love of filling out the proper forms in triplicate and following rules and procedures.

I was just the same with "The Far Pavilions" that became quite a Fad. I started it but flung it into a corner before finishing the first chapter. You might enjoy the radio show or film better. The TV series, even though Zaphod's 2nd head is not at all believable. But then, neither is he.
Spiritual fillum.... Can't think of one but Bits that moved me. Opening of Life of Brian yes. Bits of LoR. Not religious films. I just roll my eyes and mutter "Per-leaseee..." Funny, In Burma (as it was) we saw a filmof the story of Maung Shin (I think that was the name) turned into a Nat. I found myself getting teary and the future Mrs Arq and her college friends had a good laugh. But I'be had a sorta... Thingg for Nats ever since.

No, I have never seen the movie. But I am familiar with these songs (thanks to the Dr. Demento show).
Another popular movie that I would consider spiritual is the Lion King. And it is not confined to one religion, fortunately. It falls under "general spirituality".

I agree, although it brings back a somewhat embarrassing memory. I took my 4 and 9-year-old sons to the theatre to see it and within 45 seconds of the opening, I found myself wiping tears. I was only 43 years old but I knew Male Mentalpause was a real thing.
