Perhaps. There is a general perception that Islam (for instance and by way of analogy) is a solid unified mass of religious fanaticism. I do have doubts about that. It is true that religious authority seems to becoming even stronger, but I have heard that those who impose the control are worried about a rising tide of doubt, as strong as irreligion in the west. But Pew does not get to do surveys of Islam. They do in the west, and despite the rise of the religious right wing, I'm hopeful.
A lot of evangelical parents are judged by the successful transmission of values to their children.
I found this quote interesting in the section about Alexandria Beightol. Why would anybody be judged for the successful transmission of values to their own children? Since Ms. Beightol admitted messages of hate came from the pulpit at her church, what exactly are the values?

I think it's just cronyism to an imagined/described specific first creator in order to receive immortality as a happy coincidence just what they wanted.

Possibly meat that a good evangelical is seen as one whose children have accepted the doctrine without questioning?

Ah, yes. I see it now. She does end the paragraph with not wanting to shame her family. So this makes it difficult for her to leave conservative evangelicalism.
The title of the thread is "Evangelicals wonder if God will forgive them." However, the title of the article is "God will have to forgive me." I left the faith exactly in that order.
