Just read this online an wondered what your guys' thoughts were on the subject.
Fate was against a Hutchins, TX man who was struck by lightning on this date in 1997. After surviving a traffic accident, the man got out of his vehicle to check on the people in the other car. That is when he was struck by lightning and killed.

Fate/God or just bad luck?
Well here's what wise King Solomon wrote after summing up what is the eventual outcome of all of mankind when it comes to death. He said we are all equal as to circumstance of death. Then he sums it up this way:

Not everything can be blamed on God or Fate. If a farmer chooses to get his crop into the field very late and as a result gets a lousey harvest, is it fair to blame God or Fate.
National Geographic just a special on this very subject. They actually did an experiment with a woman inside a car in a huge Laboratorysurrounded and flanked on either side by mammoth sized electrodes. They said she was safe as long as she remained in the car and did'nt touch any metal in the cars door. Sure enough one minute of bombardment of every kind of giant electrical sparks enveloped that car. Seems your guy was at fault for getting out of the vehicle.
Sometimes things happen by our own fault, other times it's purely chance.

Many many deaths occur each year because of lightening strikes. The lesson is to stay in your car in a lightening storm - it's safer there. In this case sounds like the guy had a good reason to get out of his car. No doubt the storm/bad weather caused the accident and so it is not that weird really.
I wouldn't worry about that. There's about as much chance of that happening as there is of.... nevermind.
... than being struck by a meteor? That happened... once.
