The bigger question is, should a belief system be tolerated simply because it calls itself a religion?

As always, be aware of your sources when looking for info on the Net...on the Taoism section they have a Yin/Yang symbol at the top of the article - placed upside down.

You can be sure they took more pains to place the Christian cross the proper way...

Just keep in mind that a round symbol, if you're unfamiliar with its proper orientation, is easily reversed in such a manner.

Agreed, and I realize it's a common mistake. Still, it might point to a certain lack of investigative depth.

NO, when people cause harm in the name of religion it ought not be respected. Tolerated is a problem though because harm is caused in the name of religion but not all members in a religion cause harm. And harm has been caused at one time or another by all religions.
