In being someone that believes that they have no religion. And believing that the human race can control it own destiny this point in this existence. I understand and appreciate what trans-humanism "preaches".

But what I'm unsure of after watching the video I posted above is whether Trans-humanism is just a "movement" with people that have great zeal that believe in it? Or is a a new type of "religion" and/or is some type of alternate spiritual view of the universe and the human race that live in it?

All feedback is very appreciated.

Its heady stuff, that's for sure. I could see it becoming like a religion for some. I think its more of the direction humanity is heading towards.

I just watched all of the videos and I found them to be very interesting. The general concept of man merging with computers is particularly of interest when you consider the possibility of overcoming weaknesses in intelligence and memory if artificial means are used to surpass the speed of evolution. I suspect that mankind in a couple of centuries will surpass the natural process of evolution but I also wonder if our natural desire to compete might have destructive implications.

I disagree, it's a few well informed individuals who are simply pointing out where mankind is headed in the not so distant future. Many of the people on the videos have occupations that are directly related to the topic and they appear to know what they're talking about. Did you watch all of the videos? It's quite long and deals with a number of issues. It's obvious that we're already manipulating our physical bodies with a wide variety of surgical implants and it's only a matter of time before technology will allow us to upgrade our intellectual abilities, memory, etc. just like we'd upgrade to the latest software version on a computer program. When you combine this ability with advancements in genetics it seems inevitable that we'll also be able to manipulate our own genetics to essentially take control of our own evolution. I found it to be very interesting and very realistic.

Transhumanism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Transhumanist FAQ

The second link is more of a sub-sect of trans-humanism. But seems to give you a good over all idea of what the ideals are.
