Burning books is a nonsensical way to show one's disagreement with the ideas presented in said books. Censorship, (whether in a symbolic gesture, or otherwise), of others' thoughts, ideas, and beliefs is unacceptable in a free society, and it makes no difference who is doing the burning. Such an action shows no level of mature thinking, or the give and take of honest dialogue between differing parties.
That was very well said and it's exactly how I feel about it. People who don't know enough about a particular subject and are unable to even discuss it intelligently are the sort of people who might be attracted to the idea of burning books. No thinking is required, you get alot of attention and it requires very little effort.
As a side note: after reading through this thread, I just want to say, this thread is a perfect reason why probably most Christians here respect MontanaGuy, and why most do not have any respect for Boxcar.

I'm not big on the idea of burning the bible, but I can see where it would make a symbolic point. As to p issing off half the world's population - sometimes people need to be offended about their ideas to realize that the idea actually is a stupid one. I wouldn't support or participate in a book burning ceremony, symbolic or other wise, however. The pacifist side of me would probably take over at that point.
That said, I do agree with Boxcar, in a sense, as to ridiculing religion. I see no problem with criticizing and mocking the contradictions of the Bible or other religious texts. There's no reason to humor a senseless idea just because its based on religion.
As I said earlier, the Bible has been an instrument of terror to bring hurt, pain and death to may human beings throughout the centuries.
It is a dangerous book!
We should protect society against such offensive scriptures!
If I wrote an ugly tract that caused the death of many people wouldn't be a good idea to burn the piece?

There is a judgement that comes, when nations descend into such evil - that they talk about burning the Bible, blaspheming Christ, cursing all that God has done - the world he has given us, the blessing that he has given us - you know, you just take for granted so much.....and then you twist what is good into evil. Woe to those who call Good evil and evil Good. Heard the news about North Korea? Thats Americas Assyrian Army - its parking up outside the gates - and what are you doing, you see that you are in trouble, you see society stinks - do you turn to God, who WILL even now be merciful to you. NO. You curse God, stamp your feet at him and dance as you see destruction coming. And it is coming. I am so sorry to say....I really pray that you people with such hard hearts will repent and turn to God - who DOES long to make you new, clean and right with him. God looks around and what does he see? Murder, Rape, Child abuse, pornography, adultery, fornication, theft, abortions +++++ selfishness, hatred of God..........God has held back his hand, but he will only do it for so long. God is a God of Justice as well as a God of Love. He loves those who love him....down to many Generations....but to those who hate him....well, they receive back what they have foolishly reaped.
