People in my family do not retire. They either die working or work until the other members of the family force them to retire. They always say that retirement is boring.
There is no need to work in heaven as described as work here. There is no need for money. The work in heaven is helping to bring souls back to love. Influencing them to become righteous and bringing the dark souls into the light. The same thing we have to do here.
I remember reading a Korean story where the kids wandered off to Heaven. They ended up having to do more chores than their parents wanted so they went back home.
And before someone goes "what?" I think this person was maybe using a poor translation. If this pre-Christian story was like some others I've read from East Asia "Heaven" was probably more like a land of the dead. Among some cultures the "land of the dead" was, at least in the earliest days of the world, some place you could wander in and out of (if not easily) like a hidden valley or a cave.
In some East Asian societies the "land of the dead" was very much like our own world. There's jobs, money, even lawsuits. Some ancient Chinese would be buried with wooden figures called "The Cypress People." It's not entirely clear, but "The Cypress People" seem to be essentially lawyers. In the afterlife they'll be lawyers and you can hire them to deal with any litigation from the dead. They also believed the dead could sue the living. When the dead are suing you'd get ill or have problems. To deal with this you'd have to hire a lawyer/Medium or Lawyer/Ghost-Whisperer depending on what term you prefer. Your lawyer would then go into a trance where, reportedly, he'd defend you in the dead people's court of law. Also in some places you had to have papers to make contracts with the Earth Goddess for the burial of your body. The Earth Goddess doesn't necessarily like human remains so you either have to buy some of her land to put your corpse in. Maybe you could rent if you didn't have the money at the time, don't remember.
Basically death and dying in T'ang China was like going to the DMV or something
It is my belief that there will be work in eternity. The entire universe will be made new and to what purpose? Just to look at and say "wow"? We are told that we will serve in God's Kingdom aren't we? Doesn't that suggest work of some kind? We are also told that we will be happier than we can imagine, so that means if there is work, we will like it.

I can't understand this concept. No need for money, Good! Helping bring souls back to love? What love? Who are you going to love and why? Souls and love make no sense to me. "Soul" is nothing but energy that floats around, energy needs no love, nor bring anything to anyone. Energy can't be righteous and needs no bringing dark "energy" into the light.
I just got myself more confused.....
