I really like a good horror movie if it's well done and two of my favorite actors have played the part of the devil in a movie. Robert DeNiro played the part in Angel Heart which was gory but I thought it was a first rate film. Al Pacino also played the devil in The Devil's Advocate. I think these two actors are among the best in the world and they both gave great performances. There's actually been quite a few movies that had a devil character. Of course Linda Blair is the only female character who plays the part of the devil (actually she was possessed by satan) in The Exorcist which is one of my all time favorite horror movies.
I thought this might be a nice break from arguing about the usual topics. Does anyone else have some favorites who played the devil?
Before I read your full post I was already thinking of Al Pacino in The Devil's Advocate. I happened to really like the movie Fallen with Denzel Washington but the demon (not sure if it was actually 'The Devil') was played by individual characters including John Goodman - who probably makes the strangest version of a possessed character I've ever seen.
I liked The Exorcist but I wasn't born yet when it came out and I think by the time I saw it in the early 90's when I was eleven or twelve it probably didn't have the same effect on me as it would have if I'd seen it when it first came out. Of course, that's probably because The Exorcist was way ahead of its time and it was probably far more shocking to the average movie-goer in that time than when I saw it.
I also happened to like The Omen and though the child in the movie didn't have a huge acting role, the supporting cast did a very good job interacting with the character of the Devil that 'Damian' portrayed.

Wasn't the devil part played by Harvey Keitel in Little Nicky? This is the Adam Sandler flop, right?
Two that come to mind for me are Gabriel Byrne in End of Days and Peter Stormare in Constantine. Neither movie was all that good, but they played their parts well enough.
There's something about Peter Stormare that I find insanely creepy in all his movies I've seen. Can't seem put my finger on it. For those who don't recognize the name, he played Steve Buscemi's psychotic sidekick in Fargo.
Oh, Yeah! If there was a devil and it looked like that I'd gladly sell my soul, all my personal belongings and bring a few cans of extra kerosene just in case the flames aren't hot enough.

Gabriel Byrne did a very good acting job in that movie, I agree. Anyone who plays the devil has to have some serious charisma in a movie as he sets about deceiving people and manipulating their lives and I thought he really delivered the goods. He's really a very versatile actor.
