Which Bible version do you use? What led you to use that particular version?

I did not know if we asked this before or not. I also forgot to put a poll in the thread.

I use the KJV 99% of the time. I also use the Geneva, Greek, and Hebrew.

I like the NIV study bible(new international version) It is translated into modern day English. I use the study guides a lot and the footnotes on translation are very helpful..Some people like to use other books along side their bible which can be a big help in your study. I am really careful about which other books I use, because some can be very opinionated as to the authors personal belief. My study guides are mostly history. One book that have read over and over was written by a Literary professor at the University of KY. It teaches the bible in literary form.

In many ways I still prefer the KJV...I cannot quote John 3:16 or Psalm 23 in any other form!

But I also use an NIV, NKJV, and online, I sometimes use the "The Message" translation.

I do use Strong's Concordance for certain words during study and I only wish I knew Hebrew and Greek. That's not going to happen in this life though!

I'm hardcore. I read directly from the Greek and Hebrew because that's the only way to get the real truth. Then I don't have to deal with people who say it's not really the inspired Word of God because it's not the original transcripts. Oh, and in a previous life I was on the Council of Nicea so I do know it's actually true. I was there!

In all seriousness I've read many different versions and have found the one that makes the most sense to me is the New International Version (NIV). There are some great parallel Bibles out there that will put the NIV, NKJV (new king james version) and one or two more versions next to each other so readers can see how the language has changed over the centuries, but the message has still stayed true. It's still the truth since the day God inspired them into the minds of the authors.

In church I use the King James as that is what the church goes by. At home I have a Parallel Bible and I have found that I really like the Amplified version when I am doing my own study. Very easy to read in modern Englsh . If I ever question what it is saying I simply look at the other versions to get clarity and to make sure there is no discrepancy...I have yet to find discrepancy, just easier understanding.

You name it, I pretty much use it.

In order:

NIV is my daily reading bible right now.

NASB is awesome. Marks, it's more literal than the KJV. I highly recommend.

Amplified, awesome for study. Really opens your eyes to some insight.

KJV, what can you say, virtually all of your 'hardcore' study guides come off this translation. Your library isn't even legit without it. However, I must say, many churches/denominations tend to idolize this version...separate thread and 'don't get me started'.

Message, for laymen's language. Not a study guide and not a translation. It's a paraphrase. Has some problems, but good alternative text.

I think I've covered all in my library currently but I have an NLT on the way with another book order I placed tonight.

Also, for all you hardcore studiers, one of the greatest tools I have/ever used is the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. If you don't have it, get it. If you can't figure out how to use it, PM me. It really is a must have. It, too, is drawn from the KJV (like Strong's) but it's very very good. Teaches and assists you in using scripture to interpret scripture.

As far as what led me to these versions...well....God of course.
