There's one thing that's apparent to me and that's the fact that because Saudi Arabia is in such a position of power due to their massive oil reserves that western nations like America who would officially denounce such ignorant and barbaric behavior if it happened in a less influential country aren't going to do anything about it or even condemn it.

I agree completely. We supported the Shah of Iran who brutalized his own people for our own self interests, we also supported Saddam Hussein when he fought the war against Iran. We're always changing alliances and are willing to overlook the atrocities of any government in order to maintain good relations with them.
