Was curious from another thread, so I just wondered how many different churches were just in my town alone, came up with 32, from the internet and from ones I know. Of that 32, 4 have a bus ministry and three run vans. My town has a pop of about 26,000. When I was up north, in MI I was hard pressed to even find A church, in that community. What do you think, to many churches, or?
There are seven churches listed on yellowpages.com in my town. There are a total of 64 including the "surrounding area" but it seems like that surrounding area is pretty big.
Our town's population is only 22,097....we have 38 churches according to the yellow pages.
Our area population is quite a big larger and several smaller towns are in the same general vicinity. But that only adds more churches.
And we go to one in another town...guess none of the 38 fit right!
I heard a statistic not long ago that only 18% of our population even attend church so it would seem something is missing. It's not like there's not a choice. But I suppose all the lakes are more appealing to many on a Sunday morning.
City only population 23,906 (2000 Census) = 120 churches
MSA (county-wide) population 149,590 (2003 est.) = 204 churches (includes city churches)
These include all churches, regardless of denomination/affliation. We have I think all of the ones you could think of including but not limited to the 'majors' and LDS, JW, 7 Day Adventist, Christian Science, Mennonite, Apostolic, Anglican, Episcopal, Gospel, Pentecostal, even "Unity"
Where we use to live in MI, population was 21,791 # of churches: 72 (vast majority are Catholic)
Where we are now in NC, population is 1,938 # of Churches is 30. (mostly Baptist)
And while that is a fairly high percentage for MI, it is a MUCH higher percentage for us now. Liz
