Neither is bad or wrong, as long as my child marries someone he or she loves and who is good to her/him and the children.

I have pretty much every religion and Ethnic group in my family. The only weird ones were foriegn born men expecting their American wives..My sister and my sister in law in this case to act like they and theyre kids were from that culture. One Egyptian and one Mexican. Egyptian guy has my sister inlaw converted to Islam and my brother in law has made some rather backward statements to his kids who are pretty much white. Both are great guys and providers just a little backwards..more so with the Islamic brother in law. Strange but tolerable!

How about we form an opinion of people based on the content of their character not their religion or lack thereof. Some of the post at the top of this thread disgust me. Shallow people, shallow!

Either way is fine with me as long as they love that person. But I can almost guarantee my kids wont marry someone who is religious. While my kids are respectful of others beliefs ( in front of them) privately they just do not comprehend how anyone can believe so blindly. They would never belittle them in anyway ( unless they are first), they would just keep the relationship light and friendly and enjoy less serious things with them, so I cant see them getting seriously involved with someone who reads the bible and attends church and believes in a god.

Sometimes people are so into their religion, you cant escape that part. So how would someone who is an atheist, just ignore that part, especially if it is a big part of the other person. Doesn't mean you cant be friends and keep it light, but how can you have a lifelong commitment with someone who thinks exactly the opposite you do with something that has a big part in their life and in fact be a part of yours?

I mean from my understanding they dont believe in God. Is that all it means? Im not trying to be difficult, I just enjoy others veiws. I cant believe someone would get that angry because I believe in God. Wonder what shes afraid of? Anyway Id enjoy hearing your veiws.
What makes you think it is fear. maybe it is irritation or confusion. As an atheist, I am not afraid of anyone believing in God or asking why I dont. Does it make me wonder, with all the education and science out there how people can hold to such archaic beliefs, yes, but to each their own. Does it sometimes, irritate, yes, disappointment yes. But in no way does it make me scared. I have lots of believer friends, we just joke about things. I have seen believers who freak out when we talk about atheism, wonder what they are scared of?

If I HAD a child, I wouldn't care what they did, it's their life. I live my own.

what makes you think you are considered dregs of humanity? I will answer your OP with a question:

Which would you consider most undesirable, your child wanting to marry someone who is a druglord/junkie/pimp or a Christian man who just wants to try to live a holy life? Which would you let your darling child live their life with?
If a youngster wants to marry a druglord, junkie, pimp etc. the parents have already failed and do not deserve an opinion.
