Top 3 things I bet you didn't know about Reno. 1. Everyone thinks Vegas just surpassed Reno bc everyone loves an ugly desert, but in 1979 Renoites were sick of fast growth and voted for Barbara Bennett as Mayor and Pete Sferrazza as City Councilman on controlled growth platforms. Many large casino projects were delayed or rejected so they said screw Reno and went to Vegas. I'm happy for it. We don't need no stinking gaudy, cheesy, ugly, gross, sleazy casino resort reputation here. 2. They burned down Chinatown TWICE! Vigilantes burned it down in 1878 and then the city burned it down in 1908. The city cited health code reasons. Fortunately, they don't go burning down restaurants today for health code violations. 3. Back in the 19th century, Virginia City and Carson City were actually more famous than Reno, then in the 1950's Reno was actually more famous than Vegas as the place for Hollywood celebs including Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra to hang out. Okay, 4 things. Back then, Reno was so racist, Sammy Davis would play at a casino, but they wouldn't let him stay at their hotel, bc it was whites only so he'd have to stay at another hotel down the street that allowed blacks. In fact, many casinos would not let in non-whites. Oh the good old weird, racist days!!! (Sarcasm)

Good times!

There is a new sushi joint located near the Bullys on Mae Anne (the one behind Walmart..I think it might be the original?) -- It think it is called Sushi Lovers --- the price is right at $13.95 for lunch and the Sushi was outstanding. They include sushimi in the price and appetizers, edamani, pot stickers, seaweed salad....on the 15th of each month...FREE BEER with your meal. I'm going back on 15th of June and will be enjoying more upside down shrimp..yummy. Of course I have to add IJJI and I'm a huge fan of Sushi Club.

Pizza --- Blind Onion, Black Rock and Pizza Reno (more for downtown atmosphere and outside dining...oh the people watching at sunset as you enjoy a slice)

Locally Owned --- La Famiglia, Fuego, ZoZo, Beaujolis Bistro, Men Wielding Fire.....I could go on for a long time with this one!!

Date Night ---- Walking hand in hand along the Truckee River, Movies and Ice Cream in the heart of downtown, a glass of wine at Vino Jungle

Enjoy the day : )
