I am planning on making a short western film in the Reno/Carson area. I'm seeing if anyone knows of any locations with old buildings we can use.

One of the scenes we will be filming is a classic duel scene, with the gunman standing in the middle of the street. I know there's Virginia city, the problem is most of the streets are paved with modern road. We need a location that has old buildings with a dirt road.

We also need to find a bar with saloon doors

I am aware of Bartley Ranch, which has a row of old western themed sheds. The issue is there only on one side. There is nothing on the other side except a parking lot, so we could only film it at certain angles. We will use that location for the exterior shots if we cant find anywhere else though.

your best bet is to go over to the IATSE office in Reno and hire a location finder.

Bodie would probably work. It’s in California though, near Bishop about 2 hours drive from N NV.

You can also call GOED, they have a film division.

Did you contact Virginia City chamber of commerce? They might be able to accommodate you with temporary dirt road, etc. I remember they had a dirt courtyard with saloon fronts for re-enacting shootouts. Not sure if it’s still there.

Ooooh…look at this: https://nevadafilm.com/locations/entry/943/

I wonder if the old Ponderosa Ranch film set at Tahoe is still in existence? I have great memories of visiting as a child!
