Hey! I'm Savannah. I'm 21 years old, and from Myrtle Beach, SC. On a whim, my friend and I have decided to move to Reno. He has lived there before briefly but has been in Florida for the last 3 years. I have never lived anywhere but here A Myrtle Beach native. I love the beach, but not the humidity. I love the area, but not how flat this state is. And the people.. ehh, could be better. Basically if you aren't 21 or retired, it's not so much fun. And if you aren't into clubs, restaurants, condos, & shopping, it probably isn't for you. I don't mind all of these things, just looking for a change. So why not try it 3,000 miles away? I'm open minded and down to earth. I've never been that far from my family, so I'm hoping the people there are pretty friendly, considering I will have no friends. I'll be there a week or 2 before New Year's Eve - so if anyone knows the best place to celebrate that, I'd appreciate the suggestions. I love the outdoors, and also nights in. Clubs, gambling, outdoors & their downtown atmosphere is something I'm very excited to experience. So if there's anyone reading this that will be able to point me in the direction of some friendly people and activities for people of my age, I would greatly appreciate it. Looking forward to hearing from you all! -Savannah

How about around the University of Nevada campus which isn't too far from the downtown hotel/casino area? I would imagine you would find lots of young people there.

We've lived in Reno for the last 20 years.
We like it. Tahoe is even better for someone your age.
Great outdoor activities year round (hiking, running, skiing, boating, pretty much everything outdoors is available here).
If you do NOT like humidity, you will like Reno / Tahoe weather.
It was booning here until about 2 years ago when the economy took a dive.
So if you don't have a job lined up that could be problematical. There are a lot of out of work young people here.
When I was your age I worked in a casino at Lake Tahoe. Working in a casino was fun --- almost too much fun --- and alcohol and drugs can be a problem.
Whether you move to Reno or Tahoe, the casinos (or retail) is where a lot of people in there early 20's end up, if they have no job lined up in advance.
Re New Years Eve, if you are looking to meet young people, just go to the outdoor celebraton on Highway 50 in Stateline, Nevada. (Its right in front of the Stateline casinos.) Everyone your age should do that once. You and 60,000 of your closest friends can party in the street and ring in the new year.
Reno has a slightly smaller version of the same thing, but the crowds are a little older.
I would not recommend the move without a job lined up in advance, but if you are dead set on it then go for it.
Good luck.

I can't believe you're moving from the beach!!! But I guess if you grew up there it is way different. Interestingly enough... I just moved back 3 months ago to Reno from Myrtle Beach... where I absolutely fell in love with the place! I mean... honestly MB as a city is not too exciting, but nothing compares to that warm atlantic ocean during the summer, even if it is humid, just jump in the water!! Well anyways I have lived in Reno for 4 years (aside from the 9 months I was in MB). I still love it here. However would give anything to return to where you are from! When do you plan to move? You will be getting snowy cold winters be prepared. the summers are gorgeous, and I never knew what people meant by "humid heat", but now I do, and yes the dry heat is way easier to deal with! There is not a place around here like Celebrity Square... although we do have a a piano bar, not nearly as good as crocodile rocks in Myrtle, but had I never known about that... it is my favorite place to start out. It is called Rumbillions and it is inside the Silver Legacy downtown. One of our nicest nightclubs is found in the Peppermill, which is a casino off the "strip" (if it can even be called that). It is called Edge. You will be able to find anywhere to celebrate New Years. There will be a TON of people outside downtown, under the "RENO biggest little city in the world" sign There are some beautiful places around Reno, if you dont mind the drive. Have you ever been out west? you aren't too far from the capital of California, about 2 hours from Sacramento. Also there is Lake Tahoe... gorgeous. and South Lake is definitely fun to go and party in, just for a change. There is also a place in Squaw Valley that is about an hour drive, but so worth it, i take my dogs hiking up there after the winter, when there are beautiful waterfalls.
I think you leaving home is a great idea, because you can always go back. I am a big believer in experiencing new things...
I was just back in Myrtle for a wedding 10/24/09 and oh how i miss it!!! there for sure wasn't much to do... but there were those things that you find you miss that you wont get in a different place. Restaurants like TBOnz or Carrabbas. Cheeseburger in Paradise! LOL. and the beach. oh the beach. nothing compares. There is the lake and it's beautiful, and there is also Pyramid Lake. but that all depends on your taste. I say I hope you enjoy your time here. Maybe you will fall in love with it!

so on a separate note, are you guys driving here?
