Well, why we have our zombie thread up and walking. If all you want is automatic rental payments you can set up an ACH auto pay with most larger banks these days. They automatically take the money from your checking and ACH it to the landlord's bank account. You will need your landlord's bank info but nothing more than what is printed on his/her checks. I know Wells Fargo does this .
ACH doesn't give any float. Part of why the OP wanted to change the rent was in case he didn't have the full amount in his account on the first of the month.
