My tenants moved out a month ago and I'm done with being a landlord. They left a substantial amount of damage that required all new paint, carpets, etc. I spent all of their security deposit and then some getting the house ready to sell. Are those repairs tax deductible, even though I'm not preparing it for rent again?
Probably. However, everyone's tax status and obligations are different. It would be much better to consult a tax accountant. It's a better alternative than having IRS decide for you after the fact.
