There are so many bad LL-tenant relationships--either bad LL or bad tenant or both. Why is it so bad? We see it's often good at the beginning then went south. Anyone has some good ones to tell?

I've definitely had some good landlords! It just doesn't make a very exciting story. Is anyone really going to read an "I'm Fairly Pleased with my Landlord" thread?

I have one family that has been with me since 1987 and another where I have rented the same apartment in succession to 3 sisters...

In general... the families I rent to privately tend to be long term...

I think a lot of the success is due to referrals... someone that both the tenant and I know made brought us together.

I imagine the vast majority of renter/LL relationships are just fine. Not exactly the kind of thing you start a thread a about.

The biggest "compliment" I have had is when previous tenants call us first when they need a new rental, or when tenants ask me to help them buy a home. Now that is some serious trust. I try to tell new applicants or tenants that we represent the owner, but we will always treat them fairly. I go to bat for tenants all the time when I feel they're being taken advantage of by resident managers, other tenants, nosey snobby "owner" neighbors.

Pretty much boils down to that old Golden Rule.

Yes it does.

I am again renting to two families that were excellent tenants... sorry to see both of them go and gave their respective mortgage processors only positives.

Sadly, they both lost their homes in 2009... they each were paying around $4,000 per month for homes similar to what I rent for $1350 to $1500.

I'm glad to have them back and sorry for them at the same time.

i thought my landlord wasnt a very nice guy at first but he's just short and to the point and thats how he is. i pay my rent ahead of time sometimes and if i need an extension til friday (payday) he has no problem doing that. also he asks if i need anything. like one time he asked if i needed another tv since mine was on its deathbed. he says "hold on a sec" and comes back with a dvd/vhs/ tv. then a few days ago he came around with a floor model tv. free beats paying. im lucky to have a good land lord.

one more thing, we kinda mirror each other in a few respects. he told me he was my age when he got out totally on his own for good. so that leads me to believe he likes to see good people go on to greatness. then the whole ex room mate thing where i got screwed over as well.

No. I think that this will be a short thread. But a great thread, would be "Psycho Landlords". I would wirte about the wierdo guy who came in my house when I was not there, and used to come in my house whenever he wanted to...creepy! I moved out, ASAP, and let him keep the deposit. I stil had three days left, on my rent, I moved out, but left a few things there,,,because I STILL had THREE days left...right, so he threw all the stuff I left there out. psycho!

I lived in an apartment complex for almost 6 years and loved the place and had a great relationship with the management/staff. The units were really well-constructed -- energy-efficient and well-soundproofed; the grounds were lovely and well-kept; and the management and maintenance were top-notch. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the place and even felt teary when I left a few weeks ago. (My office relocated and I moved to keep my commute reasonable.)
