It is still a useful topic for first time renters. Some apartments include utilities, others do not. I have lived in both types of apartment buildings.

OP's most recent post on city-data is over two years old.
But it's not old enough to rent an apartment. Let it go, stop being the this thread is old police. If this site does not want responses to ole threads they can create code to close them after a certain time,

Aslo the first person to respond to an old thread gets a message saying it's an old thread before they respond so let it go.

Tenant is responsible for utilities in almost all cases in this area. Occasionally, something may be included, but that’s more than likely because the LL was too cheap or lazy to have it separated into individual apartments.

Water is included in most cases now that I think about it. We pay for gas heat, electric, and gas for hot water. LL pays the water

How do they know if you open a window? How long did you have said window open? Just an hour to cool off or did a lot of people left windows open all hours of the day causing a MASSIVE energy surge? Even at that was there some kind of window police?

same complex, man have times changed.

When I first arrived...the complex included the trash, water, and outdoor maint. (yard work, grass cutting).
Fast forward: Tenant pays in addition to rent: trash/water/sewer ( that isn't metered but magically we get charged high rates by the land lord) , electric, heat, and now outdoor maintenance fee ( snow removal, grass /yard work) and if we want to use the community fitness center...its a 5$ fee each use time.

Our complex is in a safer area of the town and I reckon I pay to be secure in my environment...but it comes at a price. And with my recent incident of a robbery ...its not so safe after all....

I am just waiting for them to charge for use of a parking space...that is when I WILL MOVE. They have nickled and dimed without any improvements on their part...Ohh wait! They did put NEW roofs on our complex's then jacked up the rent to cover the monthly loan payback. They were ordered to put on new roofs after the city inspected it and determined it was a fire hazard....which our complex had endured two prior to the city inspector making good on shutting down the complex if the Landlord didn't get up to code. He got up to code and we are still paying . I want the benefit of a tax write off that is being funded by the TENANTS!

Interesting.

Carping about landlords always seems to end with "I don't want to move because..."

When i rented my condo, all utilites except water were paid for by the tenant. This included gas, electric and cable.

Water was included in my condo fee, so I included it in the rent.
