I'm in full agreement about the upper levels being safer. The way our apartments are set up, the upstairs units do not have windows on the side of the building with our door. The windows/sliding door are on the opposite side; therefore, one would have to climb up the side of the building like Spiderman to gain access to break in.

Have read/heard too many horror stories of break-ins of the ground level apartments and would never feel safe.

OK, I think I better stick w/ the highest floor, which is the 3rd floor at the highest w/ the complexes in my area. And it's no good being on the 2nd floor, then I'll have noise from people above AND below me. I'll just always grocery shop during the daytime, so my hands aren't full in the darkness.
