Unless you have a chimney fire first. This doesn't sound like a good idea to me at all. I'm speaking as someone who uses a wood stove to offset the high cost of fuel oil during the colder months. If hubby weren't on top of cleaning the stove and the chimney constantly we would have problems such as smoke backing into the living area, creosote smell and - yes - a chimney fire which we once had.

I'd have someone take a look at the stove and chimney before firing it up based on what you said.

Yes, I agree which is why I'm having someone come out at our expense.
