Look on Craigslist for a basement rental with a separate entrance. Single Family house owners sometimes rent out the basement as a junior apartment. It probably won't have a full kitchen, but you can put in a dorm fridge and put a microwave on your dresser or something.
A basement rental is usually cheaper than an actual apartment, but isn't a roommate situation because the homeowner doesn't want to share the main floor with the renter (and they usually keep the inside door to the basement locked around the clock).

OP, basement apartments are often not done to code and can be dangerous (as well as miserable) for a variety of reasons. Just be cautious.
I've looked for roommates for a few years, and trust me, there are plenty of weird people needing roommates. Some people prefer to hang out in their rooms, but you will have to be able to interact daily.
There are also landlords who rent rooms who don't live at the place. They usually only care about ability to pay.
Also, there are different degrees of weird. So it depends what your issues are.
If you can't afford to rent, then you can not rent. Period. There is no way to secure housing that you can't pay for.
So, live at home with your parents, live in your car, live in a cardboard box, get a better job to increase your income.
Rent is not even the biggest expense. You will need utilities, food, clothing, garbage service, transportation......
