I had an issue with the worst neighbours you could imagine last year. I was renting an apartment in my dream house, an old victorian. Of course old houses tend to be bad for noise...

So, below me lived an alcoholic hermit lady who had a large pitbull. Her pitbull would bark constantly, and she watched movies with the volume so high it vibrated the floors of my apartment.

Next door to me was a younger guy who was obviously an alcoholic. He came home drunk every night and made so much noise. One time he invited about 60 or 70 people to his place after the bar and held a party in the hallways until the police came. A few months later he got into a fist fight with someone and they both tumbled down the stairs and made so much noise at 3-4am.. it was ridiculous.

Above me? A toddler whose mother never brought her outside. This child would wake up at 8am and begin running, stomping and jumping up and down the hallway for hours. I'm not even kidding.. HOURS.

The landlord didn't really care. I complained to her, and called the police several times regarding the alcoholic next door.. but nothing was done and the problems continued.

Needless to say, I moved out in March. I now rent the upper unit of a house. A woman lives below me and she has a 6 year old son. He's not very loud at all. It feels like heaven in comparison.

Basically, move out as soon as possible. It won't change. The landlords can't do much. Your sanity and peace of mind is more important than spending the money to move.
