When your renting an apartment, do they have to let you know when they are going to come in and do things. Like you get a notice saying checking fire alarms next week Monday - Friday but we don't know what day, so does that mean they can come in anytime they want to next week? If you have a dog do you have to put your dog in the bedroom all week?

Yes... Times like this nice to have a crate. If there is a alarm in the bedroom....not a good place for Fido.

I have been lucky that my LL lets me know the time and date that she is coming over. If you need your LL to be more specific...let them know. They should be able to tell you what day they are coming, instead of covering a whole week.

I'd say that depends on your dog. My two dogs know the maintenance guy. They actually love him because he pets them whenever he sees them. I never crate my dogs, but if he were to come in, it wouldn't be a problem. They'd just get all happy and excited and beg for petting.

If your dog has issues with strangers and might hurt them or react poorly to their being there, then yes, by all means, put him in a room that they won't be working in for everyone's safety and peace of mind. You don't want a possible incident that could result if you have an anxious dog around strangers.

My complex always gives a range too. With almost 100 units, it is likely difficult for them to be specific and I understand that.

They are required to let you know at least 24 hours ahead of time. I would say that you received ample notice. Just give the office a call in the morning to see if they can give you a better time frame as to when they will be out so you can arrange to have the dog secured. They should be able to have a somewhat idea as to when it might be. BUT...don't get mad at them if they do not as they may be at the mercy of a third party.

If you are in AZ, the landlord is to give 2 days’ advance notice for any non-emergency entrance where you have not requested service. They have given you ample notice.

As for the dog, if the property is rented with the understanding that you have a dog, you can request reasonable accommodation of the entry based on their acknowledgement that you have a dog. Simply request a narrower timeline, or advance notice. The reason is you need to secure the dog and can’t do it with an open ended timeframe.

You get a notice...it will say something like: "XYZ Fire Co. will be here to do fire alarm/sprinkler inspections in your building next week. They will be here on 6-12, 6-13 and 6-14 doing inspections during the hours of 9am-5pm. To those residents who have dogs, please confine your dogs during those hours if no one will be home"

You can ask them to accommodate you all you want, but don't hold your breath. This isnt a repair request you put in and want to home while they do it, this is something they are required to do by the county and or state and quite frankly don't give a darn about your dog confinement issues.

And no, you can't lock your dog in a room that has an alarm or sprinklers. Put your dog in a crate, put your dog in the bathroom, find someone to hang out during those hours, stay home, board your dog, do whatever you have to do to be compliant.

I guess things have change a lot because I have rented dozens of apartments in the 70's and 80's and not once did I have this problems. That was a long time ago in CA but things change and I may add "not for the better". Being born in the 40's people care about one another but today it's everyone for themselves and very few people care about anyone. Next month I will be moving to a house and maybe that will be better.

^^^ I'm not sure really what problem you have. You've been given notice of a maintenance entry (which is to your benefit) and can simply ask (as has been suggested) for a little more specificity where time and day is concerned. Where's the problem?

PS: I was born in the 40s too but don't agree with your sweeping generalization.

They do care about you, they're doing inspections on the fire alarms and/or sprinklers that could save your life in case of a fire. I don't think they're asking you for too much here, how ticked would you be if those alarms or sprinklers didn't work when you needed them too?

As I said, we do this twice a year and it's not a big deal. My dog is crate trained, so he's crated when they come in and do their thing.
