there ARE do it yourself methods, but WHAT you do depends on whether you want two separate physical lines or two lines on one phone. of course, you are going to have to call the phone company because you have to PAY for the two lines every month. Thats why you might want to look into a VOIP setup like PhonePower or Vonage, because it will probably be cheaper, and offer you many other options as well.
Phone cable wire that is used for phones can carry up to four separate phone numbers on one cable. Each cable wire has 4 pairs of wire inside the outer jacket for a total of 8 separate wires. Each pair has a color code. Each pair is capable of carrying one phone number. Connecting The additional phone lines will require the phone company to either wire the jack for a second, third or fourth phone line at each phone jack location.
The color code for house is
White/blue-blue pair Line 1
White/orange-orange Line 2
White/green-green Line 3
White/brown-brown Line 4
OP you can have two lines coming in the house with no running of wires as long as you are ok with the location of the phone jack. And even then they can simply tap the jack and extend to another location
Thanks for this. I checked it out and now have 3 phone lines and pay only for one!!! Yeay!
