I am considering selling my home and renting for 2 years before I retire which frees up the equity in my home so I can fix my retirement home.
But I do not know if anyone would rent to someone with that many pets, and also 2 pre-teen kids. BTW, cats are inside only, liter trained, liter changed daily, etc. Never a smell. None of the pets destroy anything, just sleep in the sunshine coming in through the windows. Dog is calm, lazy, lap dog.
Excellent credit, nothing bad ever, 780-810. Stable job, 25+ years, income well over what is needed.
Have $, large deposit would not be a problem, or concern as I would get it back when I leave.
It all depends on where you're located. Apartment complexes will be a no but if you're looking for a free standing home your chances are much better. I've rented twice in the past three years with first 5 cats and now down to four. It's a little difficult but not impossible. Check craigslist and narrow your search to places where animals are welcome. Your animals sound like mine - lazy bums - and in all my years of renting with animals I've never had them be an issue and have always had my security deposit returned and left with glowing references. Good luck, and let not the naysayers distract you!

like 5 cats and one dog (small wiener/chi cross)? Would you?
How much of a trash hole in how bad of a neighborhood are you willing to accept?
We have 4 dogs and 2 cats, we had trouble NOT because of number all together, but how big the dogs are and how many dogs. MOST places around here will only take 2 SMALL dogs. Our income, credit, etc did NOT factor into the pets.
It was simply " Do you allow pets" " What are the weight limits?" when we called places. Luckily our last landlord we met him at the dogpark so he didnt care!

I rent to multiple pet households, but 5 house cats is a lot of cats.
Still, it would depend upon how well the applicant screened and how well the pets were cared for. Probably extra deposit and a signed contract that the person would pay for all plumbing repairs caused by putting cat litter down the toilet.
If you will be renting in the same area where you are selling the house, it would help if the potential landlord could look at and smell the place where you are currently living.
