Long Story short... Im in the military and have orders to another state. I flew to that state a few weekends ago and looked at several houses to rent. I narrowed it down and put in my application for 1. This house has been listed since Oct for $1800. So on the application I put that I would pay $1700 for rent. I put some other contingenies on there, but my realtor said they wouldn't do those (painting, etc...) fine... There was nothing said about the $1700 rent. So I get the lease and the lease states $1800 for rent... I didn't agree to $1800. This house has been listed for over 3 months. Why will this landlord not come down $100? If nobody rents it for another month they'll be out $1800 bucks anyhow...
Any thoughts from landlords or anybody else that has had this situation before?
I didn't know you could negotiate a rental offer. If they ask 1800, I think it's safe to assume that's how low they are willing to go.
Have you spoken to the landlord about that specifically? Could be that they never saw that you wrote 1700 on the application. Or maybe they just assumed that because you were applying for an $1800 apartment you were willing to pay the $1800.
I'd call and talk to them about it. Maybe they ARE willing to give it to you for $1700 but just forgot to write it on the lease.
I did that for a house I had for rent. The listing was $2400. I got an offer for 2100...took it. The house had been listed for 2 months and the area was beginning to fill with other listings similar to mine. So I said sure. Before you go any further you need to get it in WRITING, that the rent is 1700. Dont tell me later that you thought or it was verbal, the agreement was 1700show me the writing!!!!!!
Lots of people get into trouble by not getting things in writing.
