My mother used to mention the age of female adults in the same hushed, conspiratorial whisper she used when the topic was s-e-x.

Of course I know my friends' ages ~ all of them. What's the big deal about that? A couple of them have been friends since childhood.

I don't really care how "old" or "young" my friends are as long as we click and get along well and have fun together...I tend to forget about age ...or how old people are etc...I have a couple of friends who bring up their age once in awhile in what seems like an attempt to "one-up me" or ??? They paint themselves as supposedly "older and wiser" and insinuate that I am still a "kid" because they happen to be older than I am...This stuff always seems weird to me. Have you ever run into anything like this with friends who happen to be a little older than you?

As a sexagenarian (I like that word), I can testify that there are a lot of older people who are NOT wise. Some things are learned through experience by some people. Others just keep on making the same errors over and over again.
