Ok, so DH and I are walking into Publix, and cross in front of a car parked in front of the store, with an old lady (we're in our 60's, so I'm talking an 80 yr old lady) at the wheel just finishing a cup of ice cream. Just as we crossed she proceeds to toss her cup, plastic cover and napkin out her window. I am shocked. I yell, and gesture to her, "Are you kidding me?" She gave me a blank stare.
The more I think about it, I think that anyone that clueless should not be driving. Maybe I should have just walked over and picked up her trash and quietly asked her why she threw her trash out of her window. Or, maybe I should just not give a s**t and get on with my life.
DH was slightly mortified, but it's not the first time.

You could have given it back to her and said, politely, "You dropped this." Then see what she has to say.

When I see such things, it's shocking. There are ordinances against littering... Probably I'd just go pick up her trash and toss it in the nearest receptacle. I'm one of the crazy people who picks up stray bottles & cans as I walk the dog. I need to recycle -- and compost -- but that's a topic for someplace else.

If her window was open I would have called her a pig, picked it up and threw it back into her car. Her age is irrelevant.

I'm not going to touch someone else's trash with who knows what germs on it. Not going to do it. And it's not my place to discipline others. They're aware of their actions and don't seem to care...so bet it! I do not litter, not one scrap and dislike seeing the litter but it's a fact of life.

And that attitude, right there, is why it's a fact of life.

Personally, I would have picked it up off the ground and wedged it between her hood and front windshield (with the business end pointing downward) and been on my merry way!
