Nice article on some of the benefits of retiring during a recession. The downside jumps out at most folks but this is a read on some of the advantages. I know a number of us have retired in the last three years and I wonder how others feel in hindsight.
Health reasons forced me into retirement in 2003 (40 yrs! )but since then I've slowly learned is was a gift that I enjoy yet today.
All those who have enough income (not rolling in cash) and a decent place to live, hobbies and other activities to keep them happily occupied really have found the "good life"!!

Yes, but having to give up your hobbies as part of the downsize can make for a grumpy person.
Well In my case I had to cash in the hobby ( vintage cars), in order to build the retirement home and pay bills.... The funds DO run out for all of us at some point. I miss my cars and my friends.... I do enjoy the creative aspects of building however, hope that feeling lasts.

For all you naysayers out there who say money doesn't buy happiness, this is a case in point of a person who money would restore one area of happiness.
You either learn to adapt (and you will) or you put yourself on the fast track to death from stress.
There is a world full of options of what you can do with your life. :OK:
