I wish I could remember in what thread here I just read about "snow birding" between Asheville, North Carolina and Florida. If that isn't the height of absurdity! I'm not saying Asheville never gets any snow, but for heaven's sake how much snow a year can they possibly average there?
I have no quarrel with anyone who wants to live in Asheville during the summer and in Florida during the winter. But using the term "snow birding" in connection with it seemed to me such a stretch.

I know people who live on the SoCal coast and also others who live east of Los Angeles who "snowbird" for the winter in the Palm Springs/Coachella Valley area.
One couple drives a whole 85 miles to their winter home, LOL

I guess, when I think about it, we have them here too. The people who live in Phoenix all winter and up north all summer. Lots of them!
I got my house! I accepted their counter offer this afternoon and signed the papers. I am so jazzed I can barely think straight right now. I have wanted my own home again for the longest time...nearly 20 years!...and finally...!!! I almost put my house hunt on the back burner because of the situation with my brother and all that entails. I was going to rent just to get out of here but I'm soooo glad I didn't.
It's a cute place, I love it and I'm looking forward to turning it into a home. The only real disappointment is the landscape, or lack of it, but looking on the bright side, I can do what I want with it. It's a blank canvas. And, as long as I don't run out of money! I did good though, I think. I'll still have six months living expenses saved, or for other emergencies, so I don't feel stressed.
And I will have to buy some furniture, etc.. This is a 2 BR/2 BA, LR, DR, Family room/kitchen/HUGE laundry room AND an office. I think me and my two cats will be happy to finally be able to spread out. It has all I wanted and more, really, so yeah I'm happy! It'll be nice when I have company now too having a real guest room. They won't have to endure my hide a bed anymore.

Interesting. Why do those folks say they are doing it that way? Have any of them explained it to you? Even if I were filthy rich, I doubt that I would want the hassle of owning two places under those circumstances.
One can more readily see the motivation of people who have lived, say, in Buffalo, New York their whole lives and are just tired of dealing with the ice and snow and don't like not seeing the sun for weeks in a row.

Most of them started out by visiting other friends out there, over a couple of winters. Liking the area and finding a heck-of-a-deal. Getting away from the gray 60 degree weather and heading for sunshine and 80 degrees. Getting away from the city and traffic. None of them golf and none of them are filthy rich Some love the desert area but can't stand it in the summer, so they live there when they can in the winter months.
One friend told me, "Why not? I want to, so I will."

I hope so too. So far it's all been smooth as silk. I looked at the house onWed., made an offer on Fri. and accepted the counteroffer today. So five days? Also my mortgage lender and my realtor know my circumstances here and are working to get it done ASAP. My realtor knows my family for years, knew my mom really well and goes to our church. So, yes, I'm hoping it goes through smoothly and quickly. Inspection has to be done within 10 days...it's being done tomorrow! My (good) brother is doing it for me and he's well qualified.
I guess I'll soon be hanging out in the 'house' forums! lol

Yeah, but if you can only drive at 15 miles an hour and you need a 15 minute pit stop every 20 miles that makes it a 6.5 hour trip. So if they leave at 10 am they get there at 4:30 or so, just in time for the early bird dinner.
