Between my husband and I we have downloaded over 300 books for our kindles--so $50.00 would be gone in no time. We have Amazon Prime, and use it for buying anything from hard to find specialty soap, to compression hose and Ginger Beer. Also with Prime there is a free lending library.

When we de-cluttered and remodeled several years ago we purged our library, and do not buy books in print unless there is an overriding reason to do so. When we retire we will have to purge again, we can take our kindle library with us effortlessly. I have the Kindle Fire HD, because it is color, I have my magazine subscriptions on it. Saves lots of clutter.

I need a food vacuum sealer. This year I'm going to dry and freeze some of our excess tomatoes from the garden! Plus, it's just a better way to freeze foods.
We have gotten rid of so much in our down-sizing. I only buy what I really need and can use often.

I was thinking last night that I need a new skillet, and then I thought, "Oh! I can get that with my gift card."

OP, you are a prude. The mystery continues to unfold.............

I have news for you, I am 68. I may be old, but I still have a sense of humor. Lighten up, you will live longer.

I have a Kindle Fire, and also bought a Kindle Paper white. I love it. No glare.

Also, remember if you have a Kindle or Paper White you can download and do a "virtual check-out" of library books at many libraries. I'm sure the smaller libraries probably don't all participate but in many cities now the Library has set up where you don't even need to go to the library. You can just go on to their website and check out your favorite book and download it to your Kindle.

Amazing technology! Saves a trip to the library or great when you are out of town or out of the country.

Just about anything you buy in a store they have it online. Especially with you being in Los Angeles, they have a distribution center there so you can get many things the next day. Free delivery. Being in San Diego I often get things delivered the next day so I imagine if you are in LA you probably can get things definitely by the next day. Many of the things I order come from the LA distribution center.

Maybe you don't buy a lot of things but most people still go through things for their home office, house, etc.

I have a friend that signed up and believe it or not he said he gets some groceries and cereal from Amazon.com. He still works quite a bit so he orders and he said it's home at his doorstep waiting for him when he gets home.

Of course being retired many of us have more time to kill. But even with the high price of gas, it saves a fortune from having to go out around town to find things.

If you have an Iphone they even have this cool App from Amazon where you can scan a UPC bar code from anything and it will automatically pull it up and then you just press a button and you can automatically order it easily. I love this technology.
I too am a big fan of Amazon Prime (and online shopping in general). For all the reasons you mentioned. Plus - although I like to shop - places like home improvement stores and drugstores and big box stores in general aren't my favorites.

And - if I got the $50 gift card - I'd just buy the next under $100 thing(s) I would have bought on Amazon anyway. Last purchase was a kitchen faucet that I needed ASAP this week when the old one broke - but that was more than $100. Note that although this faucet wasn't that high end or that expensive and although it wasn't an exotic brand (it was a Moen) - none of our local stores had it in stock anywhere in the metro area. And Amazon shipped it overnight for about a $5 additional charge. Robyn

Exactly Robyn55.

I also think that people really underestimate all the uses for Amazon. For example, when I was renovating my bathrooms in my house I had to get 5 toilets. I had the company doing the renovations quoting these nice Toto toilets. Well his price was over $200 more per toilet than Amazon.com's price (Yes, Amazon even has toilets). Plus with the Amazon Prime, I got FREE 2 day delivery.

So I told the contractor that I just wanted to use him for the labor and I'd buy the toilets myself and have them shipped to my house. He asked me out of curiosity where I'd buy them. I told him Amazon.com had them for $200 @ cheaper than his price. So then he told me that he would match the price. He admitted he wouldn't make a penny off the toilets that way but at least with his vendor he would get a "that a boy" for ordering them and volume. I saved $1,000 on toilets just by threatening to use Amazon.com.

I also changed out all the faucets and sinks in my bathrooms to nice Grohe faucets. My other contractor I asked if I could buy them myself and he said he didn't care at all. So I went to the local bathroom renovation store and I picked out faucets and sinks that I liked. And then I just ordered them on Amazon.com. The sinks were really nice Kohler sinks and the Grohe faucets were the exact same ones I saw in the showroom. And both were about 20% less than the showroom I saw them.

Amazon shipped ALL of these things out free and I saved a bundle. So people really need to think about Amazon more than just books. Even on bigger renovation projects, think outside of the box a bit and you can save quite a bit.

The other day I noticed my air pressure low on my SUV. You know I haven't bought a tire pressure gauge in ages. I knew they had them at Target but I just went on Amazon and ordered the $9 tire pressure gauge and I got free shipping. It was at my door the next day. Amazing.

I hate waiting in line at stores, I hate wasting gas to go get one item like this and I'd rather spend the time doing other things so Amazon saves so much time, not just money.

I also hear starting next year in major cities they are starting a full groceries service with Amazon so that will be interesting to see how that goes.
