She is a friend of mine. She had told me. They don't have any savings. They paid off the house last year and immediately got a line of credit so they can have $$$ if they need it. We are talking about a house valued @$250,000.

It is a newer home recently paid off and they supposedly have no nest egg. He is retired receiving a pension so federal taxes should have been witheld. There are no in state taxes owed the OP said and if the wife is getting paid under the table important when she worked? Perhaps the wife is pulling the OP's leg and realizes a few things. Had they known each other for years they might know about previous financial behavior. Seemed sorta recent to me.

Guess Karma will be in their future as that always happens in life - Karma that is.
For me, Karma would be the couple reading this and suing you for everything you've got!

OP. This is just the tax cheat you know about. There are all kinds of common people you know and like that cheat on their taxes, some in little ways, some in big ways. Its tough for the gubmont to catch them, and chasing after them by a couple of agents, along with court time, etc. would probably cost them more than what they would get in taxes. If you want to get mad, get mad about the people they do catch, then give them a settlement that is way short of what they actually owe. Fortunately they do catch some and they go to jail. That helps keep some people somewhat honest.

From a personal note, over the years I've learned not to get all bent out of shape about all the evil in the world. Why be miserable, greedy stupid and a liar like most of the world. Let them be. They will get their judgment in the end. My goal is a better life in the next life with Jesus. Really.
