Another thought about naps: It messes up my makeup. If you nap, you have to remove your makeup and then put it back on when you awake. Same with the brushing of teeth routine. It just isn't worth the trouble it seems. And don't you also have to unmake and make the bed again???

I no longer bother with make up & feel free. Ah, it would just get into my wrinkles anyway, lol.
As for the bed, I don't unmake it, just lay on top with an afghan over me.

Much as I love them I prefer not to nap. Insomnia has been an issue for me for the past 20 years or so but before that I could have slept soundly along side the busiest runway at JFK. I only nap if I've had several nights of broken sleep and have a real deficit.

I tend to sleep for about 2.5 hours if I nap and then wake up rather groggy and am lethargic for the remainder of day.

I'm not retired but I LOVE to nap. It's so relaxing on a Saturday or Sunday or a day off. I love to be active as well but naps are great. Curl up with a SO, good book for cat ;0) = pure bliss. 60 - 90 minutes usually.

ROFL...I've done that too! One day I almost fell off my chair so I quit doing it. Maybe I need a chair with arms on it? lol All I have to do is sit back in my recliner for ten minutes and I'm out like a light too. My job really does wear me out.

I actually quit taking naps on days off. Ever since the day I woke up at dusk, thought it was dawn and that I was late for work! Talk about panic! LOL Also, I can't do 'power naps' of minutes because once I'm asleep it'll be hours before I wake up and then I'll have a problem trying to go to sleep at night.

My mom did that too. It was rare to walk into her house and NOT find her asleep in her recliner. A lot of the time she'd sleep all night there.

These replies are great to read. Seems like there are a bunch of Captain Kangaroo Grandfather Clocks hanging out at this retirement forum.
