This chart has nothing to do with what I said.

I have always felt this way - so embarrassing. I always wondered what other countries thought when we had such a clown in office. I'm not much on politics and don't rally for either Rep or Dem - but I do require someone that doesn't always embarrass this country.

Maybe you missed what I said. I never claimed Obama invented Medicare Advantage, I was responding to this

Except that between 1960 and 1969 the same "trickle down experiment," as you call it, was performed by Kennedy who passed significant tax cuts. Under Kennedy the top tax rate was reduced from 90% to 70%, and a standard minimum deduction was created for the first time. That was at least as large an experiement in "trickle down economics" as what happened in later decades. When you include that in the data set the conclusion becomes much less obvious. To me, it points to the likelihood that there is some other causal factor.

I believe a primary cause of the slower growth in recent decades is increased competition from abroad. That's been driven by lower travel (think about what has happened to airfares in the last 30 years) and shipping costs, and a revolution in the cost and capabilities in communication technology. There may be other factors as well.

The only way you can conclude our current tax policy is the culprit is by cherry picking the data.

Dave

My point was that Obama and Medicare Advantage have nothing to do with one another as your post appeared to infer. Obama didn't "screw him over." Neither did he provide him with those benefits.

PS. Getting curmudgeonly is what we do.

Actually it supports what you said. With those tax cuts we did get economic growth. But it also includes the result - who was affected. When only the rich get richer, it is economic growth. So if economic growth is the only measure of success you care about then it is working fine. IMO a system of growth that so heavily favors the rich at the expense of the middle class and poor is not the best option for the country as a whole.

Someone else accused me of cherry picking. I think of it more as cherry sorting; revealing which bowl most of the cherries went into.

Why is this string in "Retirement?"

Seems to me it has slipped into Politics.

It should be moved.

People like Jeb don't get the need for a pension like social security vs a 401k because they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Sure, let's give more money and fees and commissions to his Wall Street contributors. Oh, and make sure they're not regulated too. That's worked well before, or so I've heard.
