"We told you so" is just about the most annoying sentence one can utter. But when it comes to the debate over Social Security, this is a moment for Democrats to say: We told you so.
It infuriates me still that this was ever even suggested in the first place, but it's a reflection of the belief of the time that global prosperity was limitless.
Can you imagine our situation if Bush got his way and SS was privatized a few years ago? Anyone suggesting this in the future should be drawn and quartered.
I think the point comes from the concern that the SS sytem has always been a massive drain on government funds. If it make s drain on the government where it simply doesnt bring enough money in as is going out then you still have a problem. unfortunately there is no way to always make a good investment and keep winning. Ponzi schemes don't work even when the government is involved.
Perhaps taking more control of banks... that we are in effect buying, then using the ss funds to generate $ through them, then eliminate the federal reserve and stop giving them interest on our money... then perhaps the economy will turnb around, we can keep SS solvent, and reduce the deficit in the process...
We coould say... look spending $1T in a worthless war has not helped us.... and since the US is funding this why are US companies making the money on the oil in Iraq? seems we got the short stick on our investment there. if you are going to rape and pilidge then showw something for it.

If SS were privatized its value would have been diminished by the recent economic downturn but the funds would exist. As it is, there is no SS, only government IOU's. Doesn't exactly instill confidence for those who prefer the gubmint to control the funds.

Would the transfer of the 2nd largest Ponzi Scheme (SSA) into Wall Street have saved the country?
So is everyone excited about the $200/mo check you'll get when you're of retirement age? Stocks will go back up. Social Security is worthless.
