The government the last few decades has been stealing all the contributions from SS into the general fund.
MAYBE if SS is privatized we can stop the theft of SS contributions by our government.
What do you folks think of that?
I wouldn't mind if SS was where it is now IF THE GOVERNMENT DIDN'T MAKE A THEFT OF IT.

Well I feel you pain, but I've got a question.
The government can replace what it steals, so are you really sure that you would rather turn Social Security over to Citigroup, Barclay's, Goldman Sachs et.al.,?
What is with folks, they can recite history from 1787 but can't remember 2007!
If Bush had his way back in 2005, there'd be no social security today. It would have disappeared into the Wall St ledgers in September of 2008.
Do any of you people of the left lean remember how much of each social security payment was to go to the private payment according to Bush? I am sure you don't really since you know what Dirty Harry and his minions said back then. The number was 4% although the Dems tried, with some success, to tell it just as you have just said.
By law, all SS taxes go into the general fund, allowing 537 thieves to usurp them as they wish.
Not by the original SS law, however. There was to have been a SS Fund which payments to retirees were to come from but the Congress just couldn't raise taxes to keep up so they just started using SS funds (the surplus) as income tax money. I hope all the leaners here remember what party controlled Congress when they started doing that. I bet FDR has worn the sides of his coffin out rolling over from what his party did to his plan.

He should have. Odd you brought FDR up, because an analogy came up this month. By Obama telling welfare folks work is not required, he did to Clinton what Dems in Congress did to FDR. Slapped each in the face.

My son who was 25, at the time, Bush made his try was so happy to find that even just a small amount (4%) of his FICA taxes would remain in his control that he was beside himself when Reid and his group kept it from happening. He really believed that designating that money to his 401k each month would help in the long run.

Did you notice how ovcatto failed to read your last sentence? I have a feeling that most leaners manage to read others' posts just that way. The Congress has only stolen somewhere between $3 trillion and $4 trillion and we all know that they can't ever give any of that back when they are spending $1 trillion more each year than they take in. Yep, they screwed us royally.

Obama already turned over food stamps to JP Morgan. Why not?
