What I learned, let's see.......

---people in the states have no clue how to manage money, hence so many poor retirees there.

---- start saving early, paying for Medicare in the states suck and cost too much money

-----jobs outside of health care are not paying anywhere close to what they should, hence so many
Poor Americans come retirement

----- A company 401k is among the most useful retirement savings you can have, even better than social security

------- most people live unhealthy lifestyles that cost them dearly when they hit their later years.

I have learned there are some on this forum that have done very well and have a good retirement moneywise. I do sense they are not real happy that they are not known as being successful, hence the redundant comments we witness on the forum quite often.

Hopefully they can find some contentment in retirement.

I have learned that there are some on this forum that delight in taking potshots at others.

Hopefully they can gain some maturity and inner peace so that won't be necessary.

Haha. I've learned there are 10 years old behind these posts who claimed to be 55.

Bada bing! There is far more redundant information posted about trials and tribulations of those barely making it in retirement, but stating they are happy, then those that are financially fine, but try to explain for those that it is not too late for, how they got there. There are no do overs once your retirement has started. If it's not possible to have done better, then accept it and move on. But for the younger readers on this forum, the experience of the more successful in direct comparison to the situations of the less successful, may be eye openingly useful information.

One cause of this is people are generally more willing to talk about negative experiences. When someone is aggrieved, everyone knows, and when things are going well, often no one knows. It's like if you read a review for a restaurant on the web - many people probably dine at the place and have a good experience, but probably a disproportionately high number of the reviewers are complaints.

I'd also say there are far more people who are struggling than doing well. There are some affluent people on this forum. I know very few affluent people, and my area is not affluent. Simply taking an interest in retirement or financial matters means you are probably more involved and planning better than the average person on the street.

Those were not the only posts I was referring too. There were posts that people stated they know that well to do retirees are not as happy as content as they claim to be. Those are pot shots from petty people. For one thing how do they know that? But they said people who are less well to do are happier. I never take pot shots at poor or rich people, particularly people on the Internet, frankly because I don't really care whether they are truly happy or not. But how can one measure happiness online? But if they are happy as they say they are then why are they taking pot shots at others. All nonsense.

While I do not have a lot of money and I do owe quite a bit, I have found peace and contentment. I know my obligations will be filled without looking to someone to "bail me out" (bankruptcy, govt. assistance, etc).

I am content and comfortable in my current residence even tho I do have a complaint in with the Attorney General and no matter how it turns out, I am OK.

There are posters here who delight in bringing people down, with cute or not-so-cute remarks (for example: telling me I needed psychiatric help. But are so thin-skinned can't handle a response in like manner). I have discovered they are not worth my agitation and have decided to ignore the ignoramuses. For me, that is pure bliss.

I have found posters here who are delightful in their postings, whether it be a response to me or if they are writing about something of their own. Some are so helpful. Many I would enjoy meeting IRL some day.

To those who choose to send their personal attacks via unsigned rep comments, I have two things to say. First, it is a cowardly and sneaky thing to do. I have never made a rep comment that I didn't sign. Second, moderators can see your identity.

Talk about childishness!

i have learned that there will always be those folks who go out of their way to tell you your information does not apply to them . or they dig up every situation real or not that may buck a study to show it does not apply in some unusual condition . .
