26 TV station websites across the country and who are part of Hearst Argyle Television have launched a webpage for baby boomers. Here is the announcement article:
Since the announcement says all of the sites have the same content, I looked at the first one listed which is a Boston channel and see a few links to articles that might interest retirees like "Should I Buy a Home Now For My Retirement," and "Which States Have the Lowest Taxes" and a number of calculators like Calculate Savings and Health Risks. There is also a story on the first baby boomer to collect social security.
The only thing that we Baby Boomers share is the period into which we were born. I get a little tired of the idea that an historical accident is relevant to anything. Given the bottomless chasms of economic inequality that now exist in this county many of us have nothing at all in common except that maybe we grew up listening to the Beach Boys ...
Looks like its for Boomers who actually knew that they would have to retire back in 1971 when we just got out of college, and started planning for it. Those of us who either invested or arranged to have a good pension, who took the age old advice of putting all our investment principle into Treasuries 15 years before we expected to retire, who got educated cause we knew that only education gets us the kind of jobs that really have pensions or make enough save, and who found a partner to help us do this.....
This is what the site is for. Those who didn't do those things won't enjoy it much.
Well there really isn;t alot of advice that you can give thsoe who didn;t plan their retieemnt except to contimue working as long as poosible at least partime. Witht eh massive deficit loomig neven after the recession there are many chanegs coing to entitlemnts. Bascailly in testimony top congress it was pointedout that just the interest will amount to estimated 900 billion which is 100 billion more than the stimulus. Gte ready for cuts coming like europe is doing now for deacdes to come.As the demcratic and republican heads of the presidentail commission told the govenros at the governros confrenece;The Pig is Dead.
One of the great problems with the baby boom is the Pig in the Snake Effect. Any idea that becomes even moderately popular is used up immediately by the enormous demand. If a web site for boomers told you where there were gold bars for the taking, they would likely be gone by the time you get there

Thanks for the heads up. Since all my investments went down the tubes because of lay-offs and medical bills, I guess this isn't the site for me.

I'm out, thanks to a benevolent employer of 32 yrs who hired an axe murderer for a CEO (deemed Most Powerful Woman in business ). I was history 6 wks BEFORE retirement... All my fault
